S&P rates Standard Chartered Bank A

Standard & Poor's said it assigned its A long-term and A-1 short-term counterparty credit ratings to Standard Chartered Bank (China) Ltd.

The outlook is stable.

The ratings reflect the bank's status as a core subsidiary of its sole owner, Standard Chartered Bank (A+/stable/A-1), along with its sound financial metrics, adequate capitalization, good asset quality and solid profitability within a domestic context, S&P said.

These strengths are partly offset by the volatile nature of the bank's operating market, its small market

share and the challenge of quickly growing its business without overstretching its human resources and compromising its asset quality or funding profile, the agency said.
