Sprint Nextel changes bylaws; shareholders can call special meetings

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Nov. 12 - Sprint Nextel Corp.'s board of directors approved an amendment to the company's bylaws allowing shareholders with at least a 10% stake in Sprint Nextel's common stock to call a special meeting.

Shareholders interested in calling a special meeting must submit a written request to the secretary of the corporation that meets the requirements stated in the bylaws, according to a Sprint Nextel news release.

The proposal requesting the bylaws change was approved at Sprint Nextel's annual meeting in May.

"Our shareholders now have the ability, within appropriate guidelines, to call a special shareholders meeting to consider matters they believe are urgently important to Sprint," Charles Wunsch, Sprint Nextel's general counsel, said in the release.

Sprint Nextel is an Overland Park, Kan.-based provider of wireless and wireline communications services.
