Specialty Underwriters', shareholder agree to board appointment

Charlotte, N.C., June 5 - Specialty Underwriters' Alliance, Inc. said its stockholders have re-elected to the company's board of directors Robert E. Dean, Raymond C. Groth, Paul A. Philp, Courtney C. Smith, Robert H. Whitehead and Russell E. Zimmermann.

The voting results were certified by the independent inspector of election, IVS Associates, Inc.

According to Specialty Underwriters' Alliance, Peter E. Jokiel currently remains a director because neither Jokiel nor the other nominees - Robert M. Fishman, C. Gregory Peters and Mark E. Pape - received a plurality of the votes of the shares.

Shareholder Hallmark Financial Services, Inc. nominated Fishman, Peters and Pape, each of whom received 6,225,738 votes.

Jokiel, nominated by Specialty Underwriters' Alliance, received 4,881,184 votes.

Specialty Underwriters' Alliance and Hallmark agreed to have the company's nominating and corporate governance committee recommend the appointment of either Fishman or Pape to the board by July 5.

Peters said he is no longer available to be a director and Jokiel agreed to resign, according to Specialty Underwriters' Alliance.

Hallmark is a Fort Worth property and casualty insurer.

Specialty Underwriters' Alliance is a Chicago commercial insurance provider.
