S&P might lower Southern

S&P said it placed its ratings, including the A- issuer credit rating, on Southern Co. and the ratings on its subsidiaries on CreditWatch with negative implications.

“The CreditWatch placement reflects the complexities, uncertainties and construction risks that the company continues to face while building its nuclear generation facilities,” the agency said in a news release.

“These risks could result in project delays, further cost increases, higher business risk and the project's co-owners ending their participation.

“These potential risks reflect the increased probability that we could lower our rating on Southern by one or more notches within the next three months.”
