Sound Shore Medical Center seeks OK of 120-day exclusivity extension

Pittsburgh, Sept. 17 - Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester requested a 120-day extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a plan of reorganization, according to a Tuesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The medical center wants to extend its exclusive filing period to Jan. 24 from Sept. 26 and the solicitation period to March 25, 2014 from Nov. 25.

"The filing of a plan of reorganization would be premature at this time," the motion said.

Specifically, Sound Shore said it has focused on addressing immediate concerns stemming from its bankruptcy filing and the sale of substantially all of its assets to Montefiore Medical Center's designees.

May of these issues must be resolved before a plan is filed, the motion said.

Sound Shore, a New Rochelle, N.Y., medical center, filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May 29. Its Chapter 11 case number is 13-22840.
