Fitch: Sony foreign currency rating A-

Fitch Ratings said it assigned Sony Corp. a senior unsecured foreign currency rating of A- and a short-term rating of F2.

The outlook is stable.

The agency said the ratings reflect Sony's strong balance sheet and liquidity, and solid industry positions, especially in consumer home electronics and video game consoles.

However, Fitch said that despite the company's solid capital structure and financial profile, Sony's recent operating performance leaves much to be desired. Specifically, the core electronics segment continued poor performance has contributed to Sony becoming increasingly dependent on the higher risk media-entertainment businesses, resulting in a higher risk profile for the consolidated entity, the agency added.
