Solyndra's third extension granted for filing plan, soliciting votes

By Jim Witters

Wilmington, Del., Aug. 7 - Solyndra LLC was granted its third request for an extension of the exclusive period for filing a Chapter 11 plan and soliciting plan votes, according to documents filed Aug. 7 with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The approval extends the period for filing a plan to Aug. 31 from July 2 and the deadline for soliciting votes to Nov. 2 from Sept. 3.

The company said it needs the additional time to market and sell its Fremont, Calif., property and to continue negotiations toward a consensual plan.

Solyndra is awaiting comments from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Energy on a draft plan.

Solyndra is a Fremont, Calif.-based manufacturer of cylindrical solar photovoltaic systems for large industrial and commercial rooftops. The company filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 6, 2011. Its Chapter 11 case number is 11-12799.
