S&P assigns BBB- to Smithfield notes

S&P said it assigned its BBB- issue-level rating to Smithfield Foods Inc.'s proposed senior notes (final amount and maturity to be determined).

“This is a leverage-neutral transaction, and we expect the company to use the net proceeds to pre-fund upcoming maturities,” S&P said in a news release.
