Target's Small Cap Growth Portfolio adds Emerald as second subadviser

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, Dec. 12 - The board of trustees of the Target Portfolio Trust approved on Nov. 30 the addition of Emerald Mutual Fund Advisers Trust as a second subadviser for the trust's Small Capitalization Growth Portfolio, effective Jan. 17.

According to a 497 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Westborough, Mass.-based Prudential Investments LLC, the fund's adviser, felt adding a second subadviser would enhance the long-term benefits from a balance of different investment disciplines.

Kenneth G. Mertz, II, Stacey L. Sears and Joseph W. Garner will make up Emerald's team of portfolio managers for the fund.

Mertz, chief investment officer and president of Emerald Advisers, was past trustee and vice president of the Emerald Mutual Funds and chief investment officer for the Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System.

Sears is a senior vice president and member of the Small Cap Portfolio Management team and also maintains research coverage of retail, apparel, consumer goods and consumer technology companies.

Garner is director of research and a member of the Small Cap Portfolio Management team. His research efforts are focused on small and mid-sized firms in the business services, capital goods, consumer, financial services and technology sectors.

The existing subadviser, Eagle Asset Management, will continue its role as subadviser to the portfolio.
