Merger of EnergySouth, Sempra Energy set to close Oct. 1

Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 1 - EnergySouth, Inc. said a majority of its outstanding shares voted in favor of the company's acquisition by Sempra Energy.

In July, Sempra Energy agreed to acquire EnergySouth for $61.50 per share, or a total of $510 million in cash.

With all necessary regulatory approvals already received, EnergySouth and Sempra Energy expected the merger to be completed Wednesday, according to an EnergySouth news release said.

Sempra Energy will acquire all EnergySouth operations including the company's principal businesses, EnergySouth Midstream and Mobile Gas.

EnergySouth is a Mobile, Ala.-based holding company for a group of energy-related subsidiaries operating in the midstream services and distribution segments of the natural gas industry.

Sempra Pipelines & Storage operates Liberty Gas Storage, an underground natural gas storage facility in Calcasieu Parish, La. Sempra Energy, based in San Diego, is a Fortune 500 energy services holding company.
