AT&T expects to acquire Centennial Communications in fourth quarter

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 14 - Centennial Communications Corp. and AT&T, Inc. expect to close their merger early in the fourth quarter of 2009, subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission and other customary closing conditions, it was announced on Monday.

The companies are still discussing the planned transaction with the Department of Justice even though the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period has expired.

As previously reported by Prospect News, AT&T had thought it would acquire Centennial in the second or third quarter.

According to Centennial, its shareholders approved the $8.50-a-share cash offer in February 2009.

AT&T is a Dallas-based communications holding company.

Centennial is a Wall, N.J., provider of regional wireless and integrated communications services in the United States and Puerto Rico.
