School Specialty requests precautionary 60-day exclusivity extension

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, May 28 - School Specialty, Inc. requested an extension of its exclusive periods for filing a plan of reorganization and soliciting votes on that plan, according to a Tuesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company asked the court to extend its exclusive plan-filing period through July 29 from May 28 and the solicitation period through Sept. 27 from July 29.

As previously reported, School Specialty's plan was confirmed on May 23.

Since the initial exclusive filing period will expire before the plan effective date, the company said it requested the extension "out of an abundance of caution."

This is the company's first exclusivity extension request.

A hearing is scheduled for June 17.

School Specialty, a Greenville, Wis.-based education company, filed for bankruptcy on Jan. 28 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The Chapter 11 case number is 13-10125.
