S&P downgrades Atomic Energy

Standard & Poor’s said it lowered the long-term issuer credit rating on Atomic Energy Power Corp. JSC to BB+ from BBB- and its short-term issuer credit rating to B from A-3.

The outlook is negative.

The agency also said it lowered the company’s Russia national scale rating to ruAA+ from ruAAA.

S&P also said it removed all of the ratings from CreditWatch negative, where they were placed in December.

The downgrade follows a similar action on the Russian Federation, S&P said.

The ratings reflect the very high likelihood that the Russian government would provide timely and sufficient extraordinary support to the company in the event of financial distress, the agency said.

The negative outlook reflects the outlook on Russia, S&P added.
