S&P lifts Samsung Electronics

Standard & Poor’s said it raised the short-term corporate credit rating on Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. to A-1+ from A-1.

The agency also said it affirmed the company’s A+ long-term corporate credit rating.

The outlook is stable.

S&P said it expects the company to increase its cash holdings modestly over the next 12 months thanks to steady positive discretionary cash flows.

The ratings also reflect an expectation that Samsung Electronic’s strong market positions in diversified business lines will continue to help it generate good cash flows and maintain solid financial measurements despite pressure on the profitability of its smartphone business, the agency said.
