Wittschen joins Samco as senior managing director for high yield

By Paul A. Harris

St. Louis, June 4 - Tom Wittschen joined Samco Capital Markets, Inc. as senior managing director focusing on high-yield trading, according to a press release from the company.

"I am looking forward to strengthening our current high-yield and distressed platform, as well as capturing a good amount of the crossover business," Wittschen said.

"Due to the current market conditions and deterioration of credit conditions, I have seen more investment-grade names being placed with high-yield accounts. It's a busy time for us."

Wittschen will be working closely with senior managing directors Charles Engel and Rich Gallagher.

"As a strong boutique firm, both in trade volume and reputation, Samco continues to expand its presence in the marketplace," said Engel, who oversees all corporate bond trading at Samco from the Dallas office. "The enhanced activity within our trading group is all part of the natural evolution of our business. We have plans to strengthen our relationships with mutual funds and traditional accounts, as well as capture more of the hedge fund business."

Prior to joining Samco, Wittschen was the senior vice president of high-yield trading at FTN Financial in Jersey City, N.J. He has also worked as senior vice president at Spear Leeds & Kellogg, managing director at Bank of Montreal/Nesbitt Burns Inc., vice president at Chase Manhattan Bank and other firms.

Samco, formed in 1987 with headquarters in Austin, Texas, is a privately owned firm, which provides expertise in public finance, underwriting, trading, institutional sales, taxable fixed-income trading, high-yield debt and financial advisory.
