Quebecor World seeks four-month exclusivity extension

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, April 8 - Quebecor World USA, Inc. requested a four-month extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Monday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The company wants to extend its exclusive plan-filing deadline to Sept. 30 and the solicitation period to Nov. 28, 2008.

At this early stage of its Chapter 11 cases, Quebecor World said it believes that it is more important to devote its resources to reducing and eliminating inefficiencies, stabilizing the company's post-bankruptcy business operations and solidifying its relationships with customers, vendors, employees, lessors, service providers and other key constituencies.

After that, the company said it will be in a better position to devote more of its time and resources toward developing a plan of reorganization.

A hearing is scheduled for April 17.

Quebecor World, a Montreal-based printing and marketing company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Jan. 21 and filed for protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act in Canada. Its Chapter 11 case number is 08-10152.
