Fitch rates Prudential notes A

Fitch Ratings said it assigned an A rating to Prudential Financial Inc.'s $1 billion senior note due 2014 issued last week. Prudential Financial's long-term issuer ratings and the ratings on its outstanding debt are also affirmed.

The outlook is stable.

Fitch said Prudential Financial's financial leverage remains below the long-term run-rate target of 20%. Proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes and capital management.

The company's ratings are supported by the company's strong balance sheet, broad business diversification, and anticipated continued improvement in operating performance. Fitch considers Prudential Financial's strong product and distribution position favorably across various markets.
