S&P: Ashland outlook positive

Standard & Poor's said it affirmed all its ratings on Ashland Inc., including its BB+ corporate credit rating, and revised the outlook to positive from stable.

The agency said Ashland's credit quality continues to strengthen, and the positive outlook indicates that if business conditions and financial policies permit the company to sustain credit measures at or better than current levels, S&P could raise the corporate credit rating to investment grade within the next few quarters.

The ratings on Ashland reflect its satisfactory business risk profile and still-significant financial risk profile despite substantial debt reduction and earnings improvement since it acquired Hercules Inc. in November 2008, the agency said.
