Barington seeks information from A. Schulman

Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 29 - A. Schulman, Inc. investors Barington and Barington Cos. Offshore Fund, Ltd. demanded the company, under Delaware law, provide a listing of the company's stockholders and copies of certain Schulman books and records.

The request was made in an Oct. 25 letter to Schulman and reported in a schedule 13D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Barington requested the information for investigative purposes and to communicate with Schulman stockholders regarding such matters as:

• The use of corporate assets;

• The levels and types of compensation;

• Perquisites and benefits provided to directors and executive officers;

• The nature of any family, business or personal relationships between the company's executive officers and directors, and;

• Certain decisions by the board or its committees regarding the foregoing matters or otherwise affecting board oversight, the management of the company or other interests of stockholders.

Based in Akron, Ohio, Schulman manufactures and sells plastic resins and plastic compounds, including engineered flame retardant compounds, thermoplastic elastomers and nylon compounds.
