PG&E judge will not postpone plan status conference beyond Jan. 29

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Jan. 17 – The judge overseeing PG&E Corp.’s Chapter 11 case said in a confirmation issues memorandum filed Thursday that he will not continue a previously postponed status conference on confirmation beyond Jan. 29, according to a filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California.

Judge Dennis Montali said in the memorandum that the status conference was originally scheduled for Dec. 10, but much has happened in the case since that date was set, so it was adjourned several times.

The status conference is now scheduled to be held on Jan. 21.

In addition, Montali said a hearing on make-whole issues was also adjourned to Jan. 21 because the related parties said they were discussing a possible resolution.

“It should not go unnoticed that Jan. 29, 2020, will mark exactly one year since these Chapter 11 cases were filed,” Montali said.

In addition, the judge noted that PG&E’s June 30 deadline for completing its restructuring in order to receive wildfire funds under a newly enacted California state law is only five months away.

“For that reason alone, the court is unwilling to continue the confirmation status conference beyond Jan. 29, 2020, even if the parties and their counsel need further time to deal with the possible resolution of the make-whole issue or other contested matters,” the memorandum said.

PG&E is an electric and natural gas utility based in San Francisco. The company filed bankruptcy on Jan. 29, 2019 under Chapter 11 case number 19-30088.
