Maine bankruptcy court dismisses Pegasus claims against NRTC

By Jeff Pines

Washington, Aug. 26 - The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine dismissed with prejudice Pegasus Satellite Television Inc.'s claims with the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative, NRTC said.

The decision means Pegasus will not be able to bring the matter before the court again.

"NRTC is pleased with the court's decision," said Bob Phillips, president and chief executive officer of NRTC, in a press release.

"NRTC and its members can now focus on delivering programming from the leading satellite television service and increasing the value of the service to subscribers with innovations such as DirecTV local-into-local service, digital video recording, and high-definition programming," he said.

DirecTV plans to acquire all of Pegasus' direct broadcast satellite assets. The ruling eliminates the litigation liability NRTC had faced pertaining to the June 1 deal, NRTC said.

Pegasus filed for bankruptcy on June 2. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-20889.
