By Jeff Pines

Washington, Aug. 18 - Parmalat Finanziaria SpA is suing its former outside auditors, Grant Thornton International and Deloitte Touch Tohmatsu, and their U.S. and Italian affiliates in Cook County, Ill., court, the bankrupt Italian dairy company said.

Parmalat is trying to recover damages from companies that management thinks may have contributed to the company's demise.

In addition to this action, Parmalat also is seeking damages from Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and UBS.

Parmalat filed for bankruptcy protection on Dec. 24, 2003.
