Parmalat USA examiner extended to July 30 from June 30

By Jeff Pines

Washington, June 28 - Parmalat USA Corp.'s examiner has been extended to July 30 from June 30, according to a filing Friday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The examiner is investigating whether the committee of unsecured creditors has any claims against General Electric Capital Corp. and Citibank NA London Branch.

GE has been producing documents and provided the committee with four witnesses. GE agreed to the extension.

Parmalat USA filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 24. Its Chapter 11 case number is 04-11139.

In another Parmalat-related matter, the judge agreed to expand the scope of restructuring services of Lazard Freres & Co. LLC. When Parmalat initially filed for bankruptcy it planned to sell off its assets, but the company recently decided to reorganize itself and needs more help from Lazard Freres in restructuring itself, it said in a previous filing.

The order was filed with the court on Friday.
