OSI Systems adds seven new anesthesia ventilators to product line

By E. Janene Geiss

Philadelphia, Aug. 9 - OSI Systems, Inc. said Wednesday that Blease Medical, the anesthesia business group within its Spacelabs Healthcare division, has added seven new ventilators to its existing product line.

The introduction of these ventilators enables clinicians to enhance control over the delivery of ventilation and more finely tune their requirements to a surgical procedure and the individual characteristics of a patient, according to a company news release.

The new ventilators incorporate Precision Pressure Control Ventilation, which further enhances the performance, safety and precision of the ventilator by actively controlling flow into and out of the ventilation drive system, throughout the entire respiratory cycle. This is a key element of Blease's focus on "Patient Centered Ventilation," officials said.

In addition, each of these seven new ventilators work in conjunction with a large 8.4 inch touch-screen display, available in either monochrome or color format.

Blease Medical said it intends to market the new ventilators on a global basis.

Ventilators are used commonly in operating rooms and in intensive care units to deliver mechanical ventilation to the lungs.

OSI Systems is a Hawthorne, Calif., maker of medical monitoring systems and anesthesia delivery products.
