MtGox recognition hearing pushed to May 6 to address discovery, theft

By Kali Hays

New York, March 26 - MtGox Co., Ltd.'s foreign representative, Robert Marie Mark Karpeles, obtained approval to adjourn the company's hearing on petition for recognition to May 6, according to a Wednesday notice filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas.

The company's current hearing date of April 1 will be converted to "a status conference on discovery and other matters related to U.S. litigation," the notice stated.

As previously reported, Karpeles requested the adjournment in light of the company being served with discovery requests related to a class action suit and being "already burdened with the concurrent responsibilities of addressing technical defects in its processing software, investigating the theft of bitcoins through its exchange and attending to the Japan proceeding," according to the motion.

MtGox is a Tokyo-based online bitcoin exchange operator. The company filed Chapter 15 bankruptcy on March 9 under case number 14-31229.
