Mississippi Power files $1.6 billion shelf covering preferreds, notes

Knoxville, Tenn., Oct. 5 - Mississippi Power Co. filed a $1.6 billion shelf registration in an S-3 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers preferred stock, depositary preferred shares, senior notes and junior subordinated notes.

The securities may be structured as convertibles.

Proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes.

Gulfport, Miss.-based Mississippi Power distributes and sells electricity.
