MetroPCS CEO: company interested in possibility of consolidation
By Jennifer Lanning Drey
Portland, Ore., Dec. 7 - MetroPCS chief executive officer Roger Linquist said Monday that he believes there are opportunities for consolidation in the wireless services market, and Metro PCS' interest in being a consolidator is "always a possibility."
However, certain economic conditions must exist before it would make sense to the company, including significant synergies, particularly if the economics of a transaction were a struggle, he added.
"I do think there's opportunities for consolidation. As you know, we made the effort a couple of years ago. I think since then we've been very patient," he said.
Linquist's remarks were made during an investor presentation at the UBS Media and Communications Conference in New York.
MetroPCS is a Dallas-based wireless communications service provider.
