Mesaba obtains second interim exclusivity extension; final hearing Nov. 7

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Oct. 13 - Mesaba Aviation, Inc. obtained a second interim extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Minnesota.

The exclusive plan filing period was extended to Nov. 27 from Oct. 24, and the solicitation period was extended to Jan. 23 from Dec. 23.

In full, the company asked to extend the exclusive plan filing period to Feb. 12 and the solicitation period to April 12.

According to the original extension motion, "It is critical that Mesaba be permitted the time necessary, consistent with the interests of its estate, to establish its revenue base, reduce costs and restructure operations in order to maximize the value of its estate and assure a successful emergence from Chapter 11 as an airline competitive in this restructured industry."

A hearing on the balance of the extension is scheduled for Nov. 7.

Mesaba, an Eagan, Minn.-based Northwest Airlines affiliate, filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 13, 2005. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-39258.
