Meridian Automotive seeks two-month exclusivity extension to gain creditor support for plan

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, May 30 - Meridian Automotive Systems, Inc. requested an extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Friday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company wants to extend its exclusive plan filing period to July 31 from May 31 and the solicitation period to Sept. 30 from July 31.

According to the motion, the extension is warranted to allow the company to continue to iron out differences with various creditor constituencies and move toward a plan that has the support of all creditors.

Meridian filed an amended plan on Friday that the company said has the support of its official committee of unsecured creditors.

A hearing on the exclusivity extension is scheduled for June 14.

Meridian, a Dearborn, Mich., supplier of lighting, exterior composites, console modules, instrument panels and other interior systems to automobile and truck manufacturers, filed for bankruptcy on April 26, 2005. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-11168.
