Meridian Automotive requests three-month exclusivity extension

By Jennifer Lanning Drey

Eugene, Ore., Oct. 2 - Meridian Automotive Systems, Inc. requested a three-month extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Monday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company wants to extend its exclusive plan filing period to Dec. 31 from Sept. 30 and the solicitation period to March 1, 2007 from Nov. 30.

The company said the filing of a competing plan could delay the confirmation and would result in significant costs to Meridian's estates.

The extension would allow Meridian to pursue its confirmation without the distraction of a competing plan, the company said in the filing.

A hearing is scheduled for Oct. 25.

Meridian, a Dearborn, Mich., supplier of lighting, exterior composites, console modules, instrument panels and other interior systems to automobile and truck manufacturers, filed for bankruptcy on April 26, 2005. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-11168.
