Meridian seeks two-month exclusivity extension to avoid disruption of plan confirmation process

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, July 28 - Meridian Automotive Systems, Inc. requested an extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Friday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The company wants to extend its exclusive plan filing period to Sept. 30 from July 31 and the solicitation period to Nov. 30 from Sept. 30.

According to the filing, although the company's disclosure statement was approved on July 21, expiration of the exclusive periods could result in another party filing a competing plan, which would delay confirmation and consummation of Meridian's plan and would be very costly to its estates.

A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 15.

Meridian, a Dearborn, Mich., supplier of lighting, exterior composites, console modules, instrument panels and other interior systems to automobile and truck manufacturers, filed for bankruptcy on April 26, 2005. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-11168.
