Mercer International files $500 million shelf

By Ted A. Knutson

Washington, Dec. 10 - Mercer International Inc. filed a shelf for up to $500 million in debt securities, shares of beneficial interest and preferred stock in an S-3 registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Convertibles are also allowed by the filing.

Mercer, a Seattle-based wood pulp producer, said it plans to use money from offerings authorized by the shelf for general corporate purposes including debt repayment and acquisitions.
