S&P affirms Lithuania

Standard & Poor's said it affirmed its A long-term and A-1 short-term sovereign credit ratings on the Republic of Lithuania.

The outlook is stable.

According to S&P, the ratings on Lithuania are supported by low public debt and the country's strong economic growth potential.

Conversely, as economic imbalances have grown, there is a heightened need for counter-cyclical and proactive fiscal demand management, the agency said, adding that the high growth rate of more than 7% in the past few years will raise Lithuania's comparatively low GDP per capita, estimated at $11,000 in 2007.
