AbitibiBowater granted court approval of second claims process

Pittsburgh, Feb. 24 - AbitibiBowater, Inc. has received court approval of a second process to call for employee and other specified creditor claims, according to a company news release.

The approval was granted by the Quebec Superior Court and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

According to the release, the second claims process covers employees active as of April 16, 2009 or after, company lenders and creditors who may have claims arising from the breach or repudiation of contacts arising after Aug. 31.

Under the second claims process, creditor claims must be received by 4 p.m. ET on April 7.

AbitibiBowater, a Montreal-based producer of newsprint, commercial printing papers, market pulp and wood products, filed for bankruptcy on April 16, 2009. Its Chapter 11 case number is 09-11296.
