Moody's rates Latvia bondBaa3

Moody's Investors Service said it assigned a Baa3 rating to a $500 million senior bond issued by the government of Latvia. The rating is in line with the government's issuer rating, which is currently Baa3 with a positive outlook.

Latvia's Baa3 government bond ratings are supported by the country's moderate economic strength and high institutional strength, the agency said.

Latvia has a small economy that has displayed considerable volatility in recent years because of the harsh effects of the global financial crisis, the agency added. Latvia was hit harder by the crisis than the other Baltics and was the only one to request external financial assistance.
