Kensey Nash given CE Mark for new TriActiv ProGuard embolic protection system

By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., Feb. 15 - Kensey Nash Corp. announced Wednesday it has received CE Mark approval for the third generation of its embolic protection technology known as the TriActiv ProGuard System.

The TriActiv ProGuard System prevents material or debris dislodged during stent procedures from embolizing downstream and causing adverse coronary events such as a heart attack.

Approved for sale in Europe for a saphenous vein graft indication, the TriActiv ProGuard System is also in clinical studies to evaluate its performance in preventing strokes and other adverse events during carotid stenting procedures.

"This is a very important product introduction for the European market," said Joe Kaufmann, Kensey Nash president and chief executive officer, in a company statement.

The TriActiv ProGuard System incorporates several important design enhancements to the TriActiv System platform, including Local Flush and eXtraction technology that allows the system to address branched anatomy and a new, smaller 6F-compatible size, the company said.

Physicians, particularly in Europe, prefer this size.

"Kensey Nash will now actively pursue study of the platform's utility in the native coronary and leg and renal peripheral anatomies as a complement to our ongoing study of the TriActiv ProGuard System in the carotid anatomy," Kaufmann added.

Exton, Pa.-based Kensey Nash develops absorbable biomaterials-based products with applications in the cardiology, orthopaedics, spine, drug and biologics delivery, periodontal/dental, surgical and wound care markets.
