S&P lifts Great Plains, Kansas City view to positive

Standard & Poor's said it revised the outlook to positive from stable on Great Plains Energy Inc., Kansas City Power & Light Co. and KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Co.

The agency also said it affirmed the BBB corporate credit ratings and the A-2 short-term ratings on Kansas City and Great Plains, S&P said.

The outlook revision reflects the manageable capital spending program and stabilizing financial measures, the agency said.

Demonstrating an ability to maintain these financial measures without adding to business risk could result in modestly higher ratings, S&P said.

The rating is based on the consolidated credit profile, which consists of an excellent business risk profile and an aggressive financial risk profile, the agency said.

The positive outlook reflects debt-to-EBITDA ratio forecast of about 5x, S&P said.
