Kaiser Aluminum plan confirmation draws more insurance company appeals

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Feb. 16 - Kaiser Aluminum Corp.'s plan of reorganization confirmation drew appeals from several more insurance companies on Wednesday, according to filings with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

The most recent appeals came from Transport Insurance Co., Republic Indemnity Co., First State Insurance Co., Hartford Accident and Indemnity Co., New England Reinsurance Corp. and Nutmeg Insurance Co.

As previously reported, another group of insurance companies and creditor Duncan J. McNeil also appealed the plan confirmation, including TIG Insurance Co., Columbia Casualty Insurance Co., Transcontinental Insurance Co., Harbor Insurance Co., Continental Insurance Co., Century Indemnity Co., ACE Property & Casualty Co., Industrial Indemnity Co., Industrial Underwriters Insurance Co., Pacific Employers Insurance Co. and Central National Insurance Co. of Omaha.

None of the insurance companies gave a reason for the appeals, but McNeil said he was never served with notice or a copy of the confirmation order.

Kaiser, a Foothill Ranch, Calif.-based aluminum company, filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 12, 2002. Its Chapter 11 case number is 02-10429.
