Kaiser gets order shortening the notice period on selling East Baton Rouge assets

By Jeff Pines

Washington, June 28 - Kaiser Aluminum Corp. obtained court approval shortening the notice required for a proposed sale of its East Baton Rouge Parish, La. assets by a day so it could be included in the company's July 19 hearing.

The order was filed Monday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

If the company did not file a request for shortening the notice, Kaiser would miss the July 19 hearing and have to wait until the next omnibus hearing on Aug. 23. If that happened, it would have to wait a month to consummate the sale, it said.

Kaiser filed the sale motion on the evening of June 14.

The company noted it marketed the assets before it filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 12, 2002 and did so after it filed for Chapter 11 and received only one "reasonable" offer for the assets.

The company's Chapter 11 case number is 02-10429.
