Markit says U.S. leveraged loans index unchanged in week of April 9

By Sara Rosenberg

New York, April 16 - The Markit iBoxx USD Leveraged Loans index was flat in the week of April 9, compared to an increase of 0.03% in the week of April 2, according to data from Markit Group Ltd.

The Markit iBoxx USD Liquid Leveraged Loans index was down 0.08%, versus a 0.07% decline in the previous week.

Year to date, the Leveraged Loans index is up 3.83% and the Liquid Leveraged Loans index has gained 4.11%.

The average bid in North America was 93.27, down from 93.30 in the week of April 2.

"The challenge for investors is comparing loan market fundamentals to macro concerns, particularly European sovereign contagion risk which appears to be bubbling back up from just under the surface," said Otis Casey, director and loan market analyst at Markit.

"We're likely to see this dynamic for some time, but for now, returns for loans look ahead of their historical average," Casey added.
