S&P affirms Humana

Standard & Poor's said it affirmed its BBB counterparty credit rating on Humana Inc.

At the same time, S&P said it affirmed its A- counterparty credit and financial strength ratings on Humana's core subsidiaries and its BBB+ counterparty credit and financial strength ratings on Humana's strategically important subsidiaries.

The outlook remains stable.

"The ratings reflect the consolidated group's strong competitive position, good liquidity, and strong capitalization," said credit analyst Shellie Stoddard.

"Offsetting these positives are the company's modest earnings profile and Medicare business concentration. The counterparty credit rating on Humana Inc. reflects strong coverage and good cash retention at the parent company."
