Fitch gives Humana notes BBB-

Fitch Ratings said it assigned a BBB- rating to Humana Inc.'s new senior unsecured notes, adding that the senior note issues include $500 million of 7.20% notes due 2018 and $250 million of 8.15% notes due 2038.

The proceeds received from issuance of the senior notes will be used to pay down the company's current outstanding bank borrowings. As a result, financial leverage remains stable at 29%, the agency added.

Fitch said that it considers the refinancing of the credit facility with longer-term borrowings to be a slight positive for the company's capital structure.
