HSBC lowers leverage rate for barrier enhanced participation notes linked to energy fund

By Toni Weeks

San Luis Obispo, Calif., July 31 – HSBC USA Inc. lowered the participation rate for its upcoming 0% barrier enhanced participation notes due Sept. 3, 2019 linked to the Energy Select Sector SPDR fund, according to an FWP filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

If the fund return is greater than zero, the payout at maturity will now be par plus at least 1.25 times the fund return. When the offering was announced on July 22, the participation rate was expected to be 1.28. The exact upside participation rate will be set at pricing.

Investors will still receive par if the fund falls by up to 25% and will be fully exposed to losses from the initial share price if the fund falls by more than 25%.

HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. is the agent.

The notes will price on Aug. 26 and settle on Aug. 31.

The Cusip number is 40433B5A2.
