HSBC files automatic shelf registration

Knoxville, Tenn., Dec. 17 - HSBC Finance Corp. filed an automatic shelf registration in an S-3-ASR filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers debt securities, warrants to purchase debt securities, preferred stock and depositary shares.

Proceeds will be applied to HSBC's general funds.

The consumer lending arm of HSBC Holdings is based in Prospect Heights, Ill.
