Electronic Data Systems in merger talks with Hewlett-Packard

Charlotte, N.C., May 12 - Electronic Data Systems Corp. said it is in "advanced discussions" regarding a possible business combination with Hewlett-Packard Co.

The company does not intend to comment further unless and until an agreement is reached, according to an Electronic Data Systems news release.

Electronic Data is a technology services company based in Plano, Texas.

Hewlett-Packard is a Palo Alto, Calif., computer, printing and imaging technology company.
