Healtheuniverse files patent for non-embryonic stem cell generation

By Lisa Kerner

Erie, Pa., March 6 - Healtheuniverse Inc. said it has filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the method for producing specific tissue cells and hormone secreting cells from non-embryonic stem cells.

The protected technology has applications in every area of the regenerative medicine market, according to a company news release.

Healtheuniverse said it plans to use the patented stem cell technology initially within the plastic, reconstructive, and cosmetic surgery markets to generate revenue. Following this phase, the company will focus on stem cell projects aimed at finding cures for diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, avian flu, leukemia and cancer.

Healtheuniverse is a Covina, Calif.-based biotechnology firm specializing in the development and commercialization of patented biopharmaceutical and biomedical products.
