Hastings Entertainment committee looks to hire counsel and co-counsel

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, July 13 – Hastings Entertainment, Inc.’s official committee of unsecured creditors requested court approval to hire Lowenstein Sandler LLP as counsel and Goldstein & McClintock LLLP as co-counsel, according to motions filed Wednesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

If approved, the hirings will be retroactive to June 21.

The firms will provide legal advice, assist the committee in negotiations, prepare court documents, appear in court to present motions, applications and pleadings, investigate Hastings’ assets and pre-bankruptcy conduct and review the company’s schedules and statements.

Lowenstein Sandler’s current hourly rates range from $110 per hour to $1,100 per hour. Goldstein & McClintock partner Maria Aprile Sawczuk will be primarily responsible for providing services to the committee on that firm’s behalf. Her hourly rate for the 2016 calendar year is $450.

A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 3.

Amarillo, Texas-based Hastings Entertainment is a multimedia entertainment retailer. The company filed bankruptcy on June 13 under Chapter 11 case number 16-11452.
