Moody's reviews AmBank

Moody's Investors Service said it placed the D- bank financial strength rating and Baa2/prime-3 foreign-currency deposit ratings of AmBank Bhd on review for possible upgrade while its foreign-currency hybrid tier 1 capital securities' rating of Ba2 remains on review for possible downgrade.

The review is in line with Moody's new guidelines for rating bank hybrid capital securities.

The upgrade review reflects the company's much improved asset quality and expectations of its ability to generate more stable earnings, Moody's said.

Another important rating consideration is recurring earnings, which serve as a first line of defense against loss as well as the formation of capital, the agency said.
