GS Finance plans leveraged buffered notes linked to Russell 2000

Morgantown, W.Va., Dec. 20 – GS Finance Corp. plans to price 0% leveraged buffered notes due Feb. 28, 2018 linked to the Russell 2000 index, according to a 424B2 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The notes will be guaranteed by Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.
If the final index level is greater than the initial index level, the payout at maturity will be par plus two times the index return, subject to a maximum settlement amount of $1,116 per $1,000 principal amount. Investors will receive par if the index declines by 10% or less and will lose 1% for every 1% that it may decline beyond 10%.
Goldman Sachs & Co. is the agent.
The notes will price on Dec. 23.
The Cusip number is 40054KQY5.
