Goldman to price trigger notes due 2014 linked to S&P 500 index

Madison, Wis., June 18 - Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. plans to price 0% trigger notes due July 9, 2014 linked to the S&P 500 index, according to a 424B2 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
If the index never closes below the 80% trigger level during the life of the notes, the payout at maturity will be par plus the greater of 1.9% and the index return, subject to a maximum settlement amount of $1,150 for each $1,000 principal amount of notes.
Otherwise, the payout will be par plus the index return, subject to the 15% cap and with exposure to any losses.
The notes (Cusip: 38147QCW4) are expected to price on June 21 and settle on June 26.
Goldman Sachs & Co. is the underwriter with J.P. Morgan Securities LLC as agent.
